1.) If y = √x  find dy/dx . 

Solution: 

y = √x

Let us represent this function in the form of a power,

y = x^1/2

dy/dx = ( 1/2 )x^{[ ( 1/2 ) - 1 ]}

dy/dx = ( 1/2 )x^{( -1/2 )}

dy/dx = 1/2x^1/2

dy/dx = 1/2√x .
